Guatemala's Youth Chess Festival has attracted 150 players from 10
Central American and Caribbean countries, the nation's chess federation
said, according to news reaching here on Thursday.

The nations are Beliz, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela. The
competition has the following categories: under-8, 10, 12,14, 16 and 18
for both girls and boys. There will be seven rounds in each category, in
line with International Chess Federation rules.

The three top players in each category will receive a medal, while the
winner in each category will have the right to compete at the
Pan-American Festival later this year.

The competition takes place at the Federation's facilities in the Dec. 7
National Gymnasia in the south of Guatemala City.
