China's stock investors still face great risks
www.chinanews.cn 2005-03-09 12:30:49
Chinanews, Mar. 8 - "Since the structure of the current stock market is
far from perfect, China's stock investors still face great risks", said
Wu Jinglian, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's
Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Wu proposed establishing a
market operating mechanism for the stock market three year ago.
Wu said it was wrong of China's stock market to openly favor state-owned
and corporate shares. No country in the world has that kind of
favoritism. "I don't know what are market-friendly or unfriendly
policies, which are only assumptions about share prices trending up or
down on the part of speculators. If you read the book Ziye you will know
what I mean. The key is to set up a market-oriented mechanism."
Wu assumed that consumer prices would still go up while interest rates
would fall because money supply has not been reduced to an appropriate
level and bubbles in the capital markets still exist.
